Introduction
It’s true, isn’t it? No one actually knows the meaning of life. Many people speculate or have their own perceptions, but on the grand scheme of things, on the larger scale of the universe, our existence seems to hold little value to no value. If our existence doesn’t matter, then what is the meaning of life? Before we actually jump to the conclusion that life is meaningless, let’s explore our history and devise a plan to make sense of everything. Let’s untangle the pattern within chaos.
Perspectives: Religion vs Science
At the root of history, our first question about the meaning of life was answered quite simply by religion. We were made by God, and we exist for Him. Our life’s work and duty are to serve Him until the day we die. But as science progressed, religion receded. People started asking questions that religion had no answers to. And before we knew it, science took over.
Science, on the contrary, has a more believable, if somewhat sorrowful, definition of life. We exist to survive, to pass on our knowledge and genetics to the next generation. While our existence as individuals might seem insignificant, humanity as a whole progresses towards a future. Ensuring that humanity advances to see a tomorrow is our goal in life. If this makes you feel hollow and insignificant, you are not alone.
Personal Meaning and Choice
So, is that all I am? Just an existence whose meaning is already pre-written in a book, or am I solely alive just to pass on my genetics?
No.
Who you are and what you do with your life depends on you. You create your own meaning for life. Instead of searching for predefined answers, focus on what drives you, pursue what you love, and discover your own purpose. Be yourself. Sure, you are just one among 7.8 billion, but each person exists as a miracle; you are a miracle.
Embracing Life’s Miracle
The Sun, the Stars, Earth, Trees, You—each exists as a miracle. Whether by divine creation or the Big Bang, you remain a testament to the miraculous. Cherish your precious life, for countless galaxies exist out there devoid of it.
And what if we are the only intelligent species in this entire Universe? What happens if we all perish in this pandemic (Covid-19)? Does our Universe revert to being empty and lifeless, or does it simply cease to exist?
Beauty in Simplicity
Well, these are some questions we tend to ponder, but in considering the bigger picture, we often overlook the beauty in simplicity. Sometimes, the best way to unravel complexity is by tracing it back to its roots. By embracing life’s simplicity, we can find clarity and peace amidst the chaos. So live your life to the fullest, create meaningful memories, and most importantly, cherish each moment, for they are ever fleeting.
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.
